Head of Medical Humanities: The Wellcome Trust
c. £75,000 + excellent benefits
The Wellcome Trust aims to achieve extraordinary improvements in health; our Medical Humanities programme explores medicine in its cultural, social and historic contexts. As Head of Medical Humanities, you will lead the development of the funding portfolio to support research across the range of disciplines associated with medical humanities. It’s an extraordinary opportunity to ensure the humanities can play a full role in our understanding of, and approaches to improving health and combating disease.
About the role: Our funding encourages bold and intellectually rigorous research applications that address important questions at the interface of science, medicine and the wider humanities. Funded research will enable us to tackle global questions on cultural and social experiences and management of disease and health over time. You and your team will help develop the funding portfolio for medical humanities, as well as leading The Hub at Wellcome Collection. This is a ground-breaking initiative that will provide resources and a stimulating space for researchers and other creative minds to collaborate on an interdisciplinary project. You will follow up on research and build close relationships with all award holders to monitor and report on their impact and, together with your team, use the intelligence to develop the portfolio to achieve its full potential.
About you: With a postgraduate degree in a medical humanities related area you should have recent experience of working within a research community or equivalent. That will have developed your ability to deliver complex projects, manage budgets, and build effective working relationships within academic communities. You will be confident to present ideas about the cultural and social contexts of medicine to diverse audiences in order to drive the future of our portfolio.
About us: Our vision is to achieve extraordinary improvements in human and animal health. We are a global charitable foundation dedicated to achieving extraordinary improvements in human and animal health. We support the brightest minds in biomedical research and the medical humanities. Our breadth of support includes public engagement, education and the application of research to improve health.
